According to club historians, Guck in German means glimpse or glance. Bobby Jones pays great respect to this short but challenging par 3 in his book “Down the Fairway” describing the hole as “another disastrous mashie-niblick hole” (a 7-iron today and one of very few shots that Jones confesses he never mastered). Jones stated that this hole contributed to costing him the National Amateur Championship to Max Marston in 1923. The green area features a front bunker and a bent grass approach to the pond’s edge. Players ending up in the collar area around the green will have a choice of chipping, putting or lobbing a shot back to the pin.
